Complete Guide to Copper Grades for Industrial Applications
Copper grades classify copper materials based on their purity, composition, and intended use. The most common designation system in North America is the UNS (Unified Numbering System), which uses "C" followed by five digits.
Electrolytic Tough Pitch - Most widely used electrical grade copper
Oxygen-Free Electronic - Ultra-high purity copper
| Property | C11000 (ETP) | C10100 (OFE) |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Purity | 99.90% min | 99.99% min |
| Oxygen Content | 200-400 ppm | 5 ppm max |
| Electrical Conductivity | 101% IACS | 101-103% IACS |
| Price Range | Standard | 15-30% premium |
| Best Applications | General electrical | High-vacuum, critical |
For 95% of industrial applications, C11000 (ETP) is the best choice due to its excellent performance-to-cost ratio. Only choose C10100 (OFE) when your application specifically requires ultra-high purity or hydrogen-free atmosphere resistance.
99.95% pure, middle ground between ETP and OFE. Used in high-conductivity applications where some oxygen tolerance exists.
Contains phosphorus to remove oxygen. Excellent for welding and brazing applications. Used in HVAC and plumbing.
Enhanced machinability for high-speed machining operations. Used for connectors and precision parts.
